This is a quick tip I assumed everyone knew already, but yet I see a large number of people not using it.
Go to your Control Panel, Display, Appearance, Effects, check the box that says "Use the following method to smoth edges of screen fonts" and select ClearType. At first this may seem a little weird, but it is much easier on the eyes and looks much better. Additionally, you can tweak various display options of ClearType with the Microsoft ClearType Tuner PowerToy.
